Obaidullah Hockey Gold Cup: One of the major four hockey tournaments in India, Obaidullah Hockey Gold Cup is held in May-June every year in Bhopal. Nawabs of Bhopal initiated the trophy way back in 1965, and it has been organized regularly since.

In the tournament, as many as 18 Indian and 4 foreign hockey teams participate. Spain, Pakistan, Malaysia, Australia / Holland are the teams from abroad having taken part in the cup so far. The tournament has over the years have witnessed the making of many hockey players of national and international fame.

Once a prestigious feature on the domestic hockey calendar, the Gold Cup drew some of the country’s best talent to the Aishbagh, which was also the venue for several city stars to break onto the national scene.

The Aishbagh stadium is synonymous for hockey players. Many players reach different grounds for practice. The city has produced many national and international players for Indian hockey team.
